We have noticed the attention the abandoned dog, we named it Maverick, has received on Facebook and we appreciate the passion many in the community have for animals as many of us share that same sentiment.

The officers and ACO who responded initially did a great job in getting Maverick into our shelter despite the aggressive behavior. It was not an easy situation but a little bit of patience did the trick.

Our ACO is actively working on this case. We were given a tip on the location of the potential owner, and the ACO is following up on that. We will keep you updated. By law, an advertisement has been placed with the Journal Inquirer in an attempt to find Maverick’s owner. We can’t begin to adopt out until seven days after the advertisement has been placed. With that being said, Maverick is still very aggressive and has been difficult to interact with. We can’t begin the adoption process until the aggressiveness has subsided. If there are any dog rescues that think they may be able to help, please contact the ACO supervisor Sergeant Jeff Chant at 860-292-8240 ext. 1218. It is more effective to help in this way, instead of going to the shelter and attempting to throw treats through the kennel.

Please know that even though the ACO is part-time, Maverick is still cared for and it is our priority to not only find out who abandoned Maverick, but also work to get him out of our shelter and into a loving family or rescue.
